I don’t normally phone other SEO companies – but this week I have – to ask them to stop spamming my blogs. Since the beginning of this year and the recession has kicked in I am seeing much more spam comments from other Irish web sites than last year.
“Love your blog. I have added it to my RSS feed.” That is the most used comments – my response as always with this type of comment is to delete it as the spam that it is.
This was the call:
Who looks after your outsourcing?
Eh, I can help you
I run Cube Online Marketing and I would like your outsource company to stop spamming my blogs.
Ah, okay. Can you tell me your company again?
I did
Okay I will pass it on.
End of conversation. No denial of spamming…
Next time I publish the company names here – for all that may be worth – they will end up with what they wanted in the first place – a not very helpful no-follow link from a blog page.
This morning on my personal blog an Irish company I know decided to use their keyword terms as the anchor text on a blog comment. I have not deleted it yet or spammed it. His comment was interesting and added to the conversation, but why did he have to leave that spam link text? I could go and change the link text to whatever I like – but do I want to make that effort for him? Not sure.
Now if he had written the comment and used his name that would have been fine, even if he had emailed and asked me to write something about his site, (which is good), I would have considered that also – but this, please stop causing me to think negatively about you.
Unlike many other Irish bloggers I have no problem with writing about interesting Irish websites and good Irish companies – I don’t need to be molly-coddled like I have seen with other Irish bloggers. I don’t mind emails from companies looking to get a bit of free publicity and a nice link thrown in. Be nice, email and ask. And if that doesn’t work offer me lots of money…
