I so often give Google more credit than they are due, however finding spam like this in the Irish results brings my thoughts on Google crashing to the ground.
While running a rank checker this morning I came across a blog page from Coastal Carolina University at number 4 in the search results for Internet Marketing Company Dublin. Interesting I though and went and had a look.
As you will see from reading the post it is complete spam – the text does not make any sense. The page has been written to game Google, there are keywords in strategic places, title and through the paragraphs to make the post rank for the search query.
The intention however is not to upset me with jumping spam into the Irish search results, rather the intention is to mess with various banks and to promote other financial companies in the same space as these banks. It is black hat at almost its best as it is using a highly trusted .edu domain to spam Google.
As for the content it is auto generated with the keywords marked for inclusion. Not a good long term strategy this will get picked up by Google very quickly as it is spamming an area where webmasters know what they are doing and know how to bring this to the attention to Google very quickly.
I shall watch and see how long it lasts.
